Our Beliefs
In view of the present unrest concerning doctrinal questions within the sphere of evangelical Christianity and to state clearly the position of the First Baptist Church, be it resolved that this church place on record the following statement of faith as that to which its members subscribe, and to which it requires the endorsement each year of its officers, namely:  Pastor, Deacons, Clerk, Treasurer, Officers and Teachers of the Sunday School, such as Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Assistant Superintendent of Primary Department, and the President and Vice- President of the Young People's Society.

The statement of faith follows:

Holy Scripture

We believe that the Bible is the Word and Revelation of God and therefore our only authority.

(2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21)

Jesus Christ

His Deity

We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, that He is the very God by whom and for whom "all things are created."

(Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-16; Hebrews 1:8)

His Virgin Birth

We believe in His virgin birth, that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and is therefore God manifested in the flesh.

(Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18, 20, 23; Luke 1:34-38)

His Resurrection

We believe in His physical resurrection from the dead and in His bodily presence at the right hand of God as our Priest and Advocate.

(Matthew 28:1-11; Acts 7:55-56; 1 Corinthians 15; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 8:1)

His Return

We believe in the second, visible, and imminent coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the air, for His church before the tribulation period and we believe in His coming to the earth to establish His millennial kingdom at the close of the tribulation period.

(1 Thessalonians 1:9-10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10)

Holy Spirit

We believe in the personality and Deity of the Holy Spirit, who came down upon the earth on the day of Pentecost to dwell within believers and to be the administrator in the church of the Lord Jesus Christ; who is also here to "reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgment."

(John 14:17, 26; John 16:7-11; Acts 5:3-4)

Sin

We believe in the universality and heinousness of sin, and in salvation by grace, "not of works lest any man should boast;" that sonship with God is attained only by regeneration through the Holy Spirit and faith in Jesus Christ.

(Romans 3:10-23; Romans 8:9-16; Ephesians 2:1-10)

Heaven

We believe in a Heaven of eternal bliss for the righteous and in the conscious and eternal punishment of the wicked.

(Luke 16:19-30; John 14:1-6; Revelation 20:10-15; Revelation 21)

Salvation

We believe in salvation by divine sacrifice, that the Son of God gave "His life a ransom for many" and "bore our sins in His own body on the tree."

(1 Peter 2:24; 1 Peter 3:18)

Baptism

We believe in believer's baptism by immersion portraying, in the Scriptural way, the death, burial and resurrection of the believer in Christ.

(Matthew 28:19)

The Great Commission

We believe in the great commission which our Lord has given to His church to evangelize the world, and that this evangelization is the great mission of the church.

(Matthew 28:19-20)

Separation

We believe our members must not embrace or promote the unscriptural errors of New Evangelicalism, Pentecostalism, the Ecumenical movement or any other unscriptural movement which may come to pass.

(2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 2 John 9-11)
